Abstract (english) | This paper presents the results of qualitative research with the aim of gaining an insight into the experience of providing support to young people who are addicted to the internet from the perspective of experts in assistive professions. Apart from the forms of support available to young people, we wanted to specify the population, their specific characteristics and characteristics of their family relationships. Eight semi-
structured interviews were conducted, involving experts in assistive professions, more precisely the psychologists, psychiatrists, and expert in antropology of addiction, who are currently working with young people in the Zagreb area. The results have shown that it's about young people whose addiction begins very early, which are socially isolated in the real world, introverted, emotionally obscured with positive self-deprecating, dysfunctional in school, and experience the Internet as a source of power. Their parents have bad relationships with children, show inadequate model of behavior, and need more education about the problem. Forms of support are splited, considering age of youth. Those under 18 years old, receive psychosocial support from a team of experts, parental counseling, and the possibility of treatment at a day hospital. With those who are of age, there ae different therapeutic methods, medication therapy, and a daily hospital program. The findings of this research reveal some important features of this population, and more importantly, forms of support that have not been explored and defined so far. |
