Abstract Majčinstvo mladih majki obilježeno je dvostrukim zahtjevima, s jedne strane oblikovanjem vlastitog identiteta i profesionalnog usmjerenja, a s druge strane brigom i skrbi za vlastito dijete.
Abstract (english) Young motherhood is characterized by double requirements. On the one hand, by shaping young mothers' identity and professional orientation, and on the other hand, taking care of and caring for her own child. Overwhelming literature shows that social support has proven to be a significant factor in successful parenting, and the lack of social support presents an increased risk for juvenile parents. Multiple risks occur especially in those mothers who do not have available support from their families concerning unfinished education, material deprivation, the development of an insecure type of affection, the emotional and cognitive difficulties of their children. The ongoing research was designed to gain insight into the experience of parenting by young mothers without informal
support through the experience of life roles, perceived social support and quality of relationships with their children. The data were collected by a semi-structured interview method and processed by qualitative analysis. Six young mothers (N = 6) participated in the study, located in a child's home within the maternity section. Findings show that young mothers have a rather positive view of the mother's role, making their child's needs a priority. They emphasize the desire for education, employment and autonomy in child upbringing. They report experienced emotional, information and instrumental social support, mostly by institutional specialists, and less by family, friends, and partners. Relationship with a child was ecperienced like fulfilling experience with ability of well-observing child characteristics and needs as well as responding to them. Certain negative behaviors were noted when educational practices were involved.
