Abstract

Cilj teorijskog rada je induktivni prikaz različitih prediktora straha od smrti
te traženje usporedbe i manjkavosti korištenih metodoloških pristupa. Smrt je tabu
tema. Profesionalci u pomagačkim strukama dijele nevoljkost društva oko
raspravljanja o smrti i bore se odvojiti vlastite stavove od njihovih profesionalnih
uloga i ponašanja dok brinu o pojedincima i obiteljima suočenima sa smrću.
Pomagačke struke izvještavaju o nespremnosti profesionalaca u radu s umirućim ili
ožalošćenim korisnicima, što se ne bi smjelo događati. Pregledom istraživanja
utvrđeno je kako su rezultati većinom neujednačeni. Žene u većini navedenih
istraživanja pokazuju veći strah od smrti. S ulaskom u starost strah od smrti opada.
Religioznost je pozitivno povezana sa strahom od smrti na način da osobe koje imaju
intrinzično vjerovanje, kao na primjer vjerovanje u život poslije smrti, imaju manji
osjećaj straha od smrti jer zamišljaju smrt kao početak, a ne kao kraj. Vezano uz
kvalitetu života i strah od smrti, veće zadovoljstvo društvenim položajem pokazalo se
značajnim u odnosu na manji strah od smrti i veće prihvaćanje smrti. Razrađuje se i
koncept dobre smrti, koji je proizašao iz palijativne skrbi i koji za cilj ima pokazati
kako kvalitetno živjeti do samog kraja. Na kraju se prikazuje tehnika reminiscencije,
kao vrlo produktivna i jednostavna tehnika proizašla iz gerontologije, a čiji je cilj
jačanje identiteta i osnaživanje starijih ljudi.

Abstract (english)

The aim of the theoretical work is the inductive presentation of different
predictors of fear of death and the search for comparison and shortcomings of the
methodological approaches used. Death is a taboo subject. Professionals in the
helping professions share society’s reluctance to discuss death and struggle to
separate their own views from their professional roles and behaviors while caring for
individuals and families facing death. Helping professions report the unwillingness of
professionals to work with dying or bereaved users, which should not be the case. A
review of the researches used, found that the results were mostly inconsistent. Women
in most of these studies show a greater fear of death. With age, the fear of death
decreases. Religiosity is positively associated with fear of death in such a way that
people who have an intrinsic belief, such as a belief in life after death, have less of a
fear of death because they imagine death as the beginning rather than the end.
Regarding the quality of life and fear of death, greater satisfaction with social status
proved to be significant in relation to less fear of death and greater acceptance of
death. The concept of a good death, which originated from palliative care and which
aims to show how to live well to the end, is also being developed. Finally, the
reminiscence technique is presented, as a very productive and simple technique
derived from gerontology, whose goal is to strengthen the identity and empower older
people.
