Abstract

Siromaštvo djece razumijeva se kao multidimenzionalan fenomen. Kao takvog, promatra ga se iz aspekta kršenja ljudskih prava, odnosno dječjih prava. Siromaštvo djece sve se više promatra u pogledu utjecaja na socijalne i emocionalne posljedice, odnosno na mentalno zdravlje djece. Cilj ovoga rada bio je istraţiti kako siromaštvo utječe na razvoj djece, s naglaskom na posljedice mentalnog zdravlja te rizik od socijalne isključenosti. Najčešći problemi mentalnog zdravlja koji se javljaju kod djece koja odrastaju u siromaštvu su depresivnost i anksioznost, nisko samopoštovanje, osjećaj samoće, potreba za pripadanjem, psihosomatski simptom te eksternalizirani problemi u ponašanju. Djeca koja odrastaju u siromaštvu iskazuju nemogućnost sudjelovanja u aktivnostima za djecu i mlade te povlačenje iz aktivnosti i društva koje podrazumijevaju trošenje novca što predstavlja rizik za socijalnu isključenost. Mentalna stabilnost, odnosno mentalno zdravlje jednako je vaţno kao i tjelesno zdravlje. Posljedice koje siromaštvo ostavlja na mentalno zdravlje djece ne ogledaju se samo u sadašnjosti, već ostavljaju posljedice na mentalno zdravlje u odrasloj dobi, stoga je vaţno raditi na prevenciji mentalnih poremećaja kod djece, specifično djece koja odrastaju u siromaštvu, s naglaskom na stvaranje zdrave obiteljske atmosfere i usvajanju poticajnih odgojnih postupaka roditelja djece koja odrastaju u siromaštvu.

Abstract (english)

Child poverty is understand as multidimensional phenomenon and accoarding to that it is viewed from the aspect of human and child rights violations. Moreover, child poverty is increasingly viewed in terms of its impact on social and emotional consequences and mental health. The aim of this paper was to investigate how poverty affects the development of children, with an emphasis on the consequences of mental health and the risk of social exclusion. The most common mental health problems that occur in children growing up in poverty are depression and anxiety, low self-esteem, loneliness, need to belong, psychosomatic symptoms and externalized behavioral problems. Also, children growing up in poverty show inability to participate in activities for children and youth and are exlucded from activities that involve spending money which leads to a risk for social exclusion. Mental stability and mental health is as important and necessary as physical. The consequences that poverty has on the mental health of children are not only reflected in the present, but also have consequences on mental health in adulthood, so it is important to work on preventing mental disorders of children, specifically of children growing up in poverty, emphasising on creating a healthy family atmosphere and adopting stimulating parenting practices of parents of children growing up in poverty.
