Abstract

Svrha ovog preglednog rada je da na temelju postojećih saznanja i istraživanja dobijemo uvid u to što je Down sindrom, kakva je povijest nastanka Down sindroma, njegovo dijagnosticiranje, simptome, zdravstvenu skrb djece s Down sindromom te njihovu integraciju u redovite predškolske i školske ustanove. Down sindrom je najčešći genetski poremećaj koji nastaje uslijed viška jednog cijelog kromosoma ili dijela kromosoma u jezgri svake stanice tijela. Poznato je da se jedno od 650 novorođene djece rađa s Down sindromom. Down sindrom uzrokuje niz zdravstvenih i funkcionalnih poteškoća koje je važno dobro poznavati kako bi ih mogli predvidjeti i na vrijeme procijeniti postoje li i u kojem obimu. Uključivanje djece s posebnim potrebama u redoviti školski sustav je mnogo lakše kad se govori o djeci predškolskog odgoja. No, sukladno Ustavu Republike Hrvatske osnovno školovanje je obvezno, besplatno i pod jednakim uvjetima za sve. Također, treba naglasiti da tjelesno i duševno oštećeno, te socijalno zapušteno dijete ima pravo na osobitu njegu, obrazovanje i skrb.

Abstract (english)

The purpose of this review is that on the basis of existing knowledge and research we get an insight into what is Down syndrome, what is the history of the occurrence of Down syndrome, its diagnosis, symptoms, medical care of children with Down Syndrome and their integration into regular preschool and school facilities. Down syndrome is the most common genetic disorder that results from the excess of an entire chromosome or part of chromosomes in the nucleus of every cell of human body. One in every six hundred and fifty newborns are born with Down syndrome. Down syndrome causes a range of health and functional difficulties that are important to be familiar with so they could be anticipated and assessed on time, whether there are any difficulties and to what extent. The inclusion of children with special needs in the regular school system is much easier when it comes to preschool education. However, according to the Croatian Constitution primary education is compulsory, free of charge and under the same conditions for all. Also, it should be noted that physically and mentally disabled and socially neglected children shall have the right to special care, education and welfare.
