Abstract

Uz sve veći udio starije populacije u društvu, novo pitanje današnjice postaje pitanje starosti i starenja. Dok je starenje prirodan i ireverzibilan proces tokom kojega se događaju sveobuhvatne promjene, starost predstavlja posljednje životno razdoblje koje se najčešće karakterizira smanjenom tjelesnom snagom i slabijim zdravljem. I dok se u literaturi razlikuje podjela na patološko, uobičajeno i uspješno starenje, imperativ poželjnome je, nedvojbeno, uspješno starenje. Uspješno starenje zagovara i podrazumijeva odsutstvo bolesti, angažiranost, uključujući socijalnu podršku i aktivnost, te održavanje visoke razine kognitivnog i tjelesnog funkcioniranja.
U radu će, uz opis koncepta uspješnog starenja, biti predstavljene važne odrednice uspješnog starenja, od onih više poznatih poput tjelesne aktivnosti i socijalne podrške, do onih manje poznatih poput volontiranja i cjeloživotnog učenja. Također, bit će prezentirana i mišljenja samih starijih osoba o tome kako oni vide uspješno starenje što može biti važan resurs u pristupu starijima i konceptu starenja općenito.
Naposljetku će se istaknuti značaj i važnost uspješnog starenja kroz definirana područja unaprjeđenog funkcioniranja, među kojima je izdvojeno zadovoljstvo životom.

Abstract (english)

With an increasing share of the older population in society, the question of age and ageing becomes a new issue of today. While ageing is natural and irreversible process during which comprehensive changes are taking place, old age represents the last period of life that is most often characterized by reduced physical strength and weaker health. While the literature differs division into pathological, normal and successful ageing, the imperative to desirable is, undoubtedly, successful ageing. Successful aging advocates and involves absence of illness, engagement, including social support and activity, and maintaining high levels of cognitive and physical functioning.
In this work, in addition to describing the concept of successful aging, important determinants of successful aging will be presented, from those commonly known as physical activity and social support, to those less known, such as volunteering and lifelong learning. Also, opinions of the elderly on how they see successful ageing, which can be an important resource for approaching the elderly and ageing concept in general, will be presented.
Finally, the significance and importance of successful ageing will be highlighted through defined areas of improved functioning, among which life satisfaction stands out.
