Abstract

Ovaj rad nudi prikaz socijalne prirode srama i stigme koji prate fenomen siromaštva. Fokus je pri tom na vrijednostima i uvjerenjima koji oblikuju odnos društva i sustava prema pojedincu i skupinama ljudi koji žive u materijalnoj oskudici. Postavlja se i pitanje važnosti društvene i ekonomske moći pri legitimiziranju i provođenju sustavne stigmatizacije i posramljivanja siromašnih osoba. Problematiziraju se i posljedice koje internalizirana stigma i sram imaju na životne šanse, odnose, ekonomsku, zdravstvenu i psihološku dobrobit osoba koje žive u siromaštvu. Na kraju je stavljen i naglasak na važnost razumijevanja i dodatnog upoznavanja fenomena siromaštva u kontekstu srama i stigme, kako za stručnjake poput socijalnih radnika tako i za društvo u cjelini.

Abstract (english)

This paper provides an insight into the social nature of shame and stigma that occur alongside the phenomenon of poverty. The focus is thereby on the values and beliefs that shape the interaction between society and system and the individuals and groups living in material deprivation. Also, an emphasis was put on social and economic power and norms that legitimize stigmatization and shaming of people who live in poverty. We presented findings of various surveys worldwide on consequences internalized shame and stigma has on people living in poverty and suggested how those consequences could affect the society in general. The paper also analyses the problem of poverty awareness linking to stigma and shame in the context of social work profession challenge and education of social workers.
