Abstract (english) Foster care as a form of alternative care for uninhabited children is replacement for parental care. Social support for foster parents is a sort of resource for easier snatching and carrying with potential difficulties. The aim of this qualitative research was to gain insights into the social support provided to foster parents by other members of the social network during child care. Six female foster parents from the area of Koprivnica-Križevci County participated in the research. The data were collected by a semi-structured interview. Research results show that foster parents in the Koprivnica-Križevci County receive emotional, informational and instrumental support. Contact and socializing with other foster parents and with foster association is also significant. Fosterers receive support from members of informal (family support, neighbors, other foster parents, biological parents of the child) and formal (school, doctor, Centre for social welfare) social network. Regarding available support percived by foster parents, research has shown that foster parents consider the social welfare system to show insufficient care for their needs, which is reflected by the insufficient involvement of the Social Welfare Center,
the lack of cost refunds, low foster fees, and failure to inform foster parents about their rights. Among other things, research has shown that foster parents lack the support of members of the informal social network which includes lack of support from the biological parents of a foster child, lack of the neighbors support, lack of support from the Church and there is also a lack of information on the foster families assotiations benefit.
